The Consulate's Office hour is 9:00-11:30am and 1:30-3:00pm, Monday to Friday, except holidays (a mix of Chinese and US holidays).

Getting to the Chinese Consulate in Houston

• From north of Houston, take I-45 South, exit at Allen Parkway and go west on Allen Parkway Studemont St., then make a left at Montrose and go south. The consulate is at the second street after Westheimer on your left.
• From I-10 East or I-10 West, exit to I-45 South, then follow the directions there.
• From West or Southwest Houston, take 59 North, exit at Richmond then turn left. On Richmond, turn right onto Montrose. Go north, the consulate is on your right shortly after you pass West Alabama.
• From Northeast Houston or Bush Intercontinental airport, take 59 South. Exit at Fannin Street after passing Downtown. While on Fannin, turn right and then left onto Main Street. When you reach a water fountain, turn right onto Montrose. Go north, pass US 59 (under the bridge), the consulate is on your right shortly after you pass West Alabama.

Parking Park on street only. Do not park in parking lots of stores or shopping centers half mile within the consulate, otherwise your car may be towed! The tow car drivers are watching on you! You need to pay $120 to get your car back.

Restaurants

There are several good restaurants along the Montrose between the Chinese consulate and Main Street. On the map we showed some Chinese restaurants, but they are not authentic. Better Chinese restaurants are in China Town (move the map west to Beltway 8).

Museums

Montrose and Main Street area is heart of Houston's famous Museusm District. If you have spare time, you may want to visit. Please see Houston museums page (Chinese link) for details.

Hotels

Don't expect that you can stay in a hotel within working distance to the consulate -- there are not many and expensive. Hotels in areas within several miles of the consulate are also not cheap: Downtown, Galleria, Medical Center. You may find all Houston hotels on Houston hotel map. You can move, zoom the map and then search. All hotels within the map display area will be shown.

The advices are:

• Rent a car and find a hotel you like elsewhere, e.g. near IAH airport, China Town.
• Stay in a hotel closer to the consulate so that the taxi cost is not so high, e.g. Downtown, Texas Medical Center, Galleria.

Visit NASA (Space Center Houston)

You may take Bus 249 from Downtown. It runs every one hour.
